Paper and Ink
For all limited edition prints, we use Epson archival ink on genuine Epson "Archival Matte"
(Epson has changed the name of this paper at least twice.) This combination has been
tested to last 200 years under glass.
For all open edition prints, reproductions, and note cards we now offer a choice: Epson archival, or 62lb. GreenPix Photo
Matte with Canon pigment ink. Although the second choice is not archival, the paper is buffered; it should last a long time under UV-filtering
"Conservation Clear" glass. It is made of 100% post-consuer waste recycled paper, bleached without chlorine.
I recommend it especially for note cards. Both choices are equally beautiful. For large quantities, you may order prints on recycled paper with
sustainable inks; please request a quote.
Framing is artfully chosen using archival materials,
which results in in less waste going into our landfills.
Frames
Our frames are environmentally friendly products; no rainforest or hardwood
trees are sacrificed. Frame widths vary; overall size is usually about one to two inches larger than the stated frame size.
Any new frames we order will be made of non-endangered wood from tree farms, or bamboo frames with eco-concious
finishes. Frames in stock include recycled-wood frames laminated with a wood-tone material. I have been assured by the manufacturer that
this material is not vinyl, and is non-toxic. We also have overstock frames, frames made locally from discontinued moldings, and used frames
(donated by a generous fellow-member of The Art Group in MT Jackson, VA).
Colors currently in stock in most sizes: black, reddish wood tone, blond wood tone,
dark brown wood tone.
Matting/Mounting
We are looking for a mounting and matting material that is more environmentally friendly than conventionally grown cotton, without sacrificing longevity.
Many framers tout cotton rag mats as being "renewable," but fail to mention that the pesticides used to grow cotton are among the most damaging for
the environment. If you know of anyone who offers organic or recycled cotton rag mats, or mats made of hemp, linen, etc., please let me know. Wood fiber
cannot be made as safe for artwork as cotton rag; the buffering dissipates over time.
Mats and mouting board are white, off-white, or black unless you request a different color (fee requested).

If framed without a mat, artwork is separated from the glass by PH-neutral spacers.
If mounted to a larger mat board, artwork is float-mounted with rice paper hinges and wheat paste, the method approved by conservators.
Glazing
We use UV-filtering "Conservation Clear" glass to protect your artwork for generations.
but you may request 87% UV-filtering acrylic, which we recommend if you move frequently.
