Most of the letters in this book were written to my siblings (and some of them were hardly children at the time!). I am the Miriam who sent Lewis a picture of Aslan, and yes, the burning episode was an accident. I wish that the letters to Lewis had been preserved; this collection would have been far more interesting.

For this glorious edition, Pauline Baynes hand-colored the illustrations she had done for the first editions of the series. I remember wishing they were in color when I was a small child. The first book in the series, "The Magician's Nephew", is dedicated to the Kilmer Family (mine).

This is my favorite of Lewis's books. It is definitely intended for adults. Fritz Eichenberg is one of my favorite illustrators, so I will have to add this edition to my library!
